Supernatural

Since I have been temporary living in places that do not have any decent TV shows, I have to relay heavily on my and my co-workers DVD collections to see some decent shows or at least something new. This have included several seasons of The Simpson (best show on earth), Weeds (interesting, but if I was at home I would probably be watching anything else), Seinfeld, and Titus (not too well know, but I find it funny as hell) to name a few.

A few weeks back a friend came back from vacation in Thailand with first two seasons of Supernatural (key word is Thailand). When this show first premiered, I was able to watch most of the first season with a little help of TiVo. Because it has been awhile since I have seen this show, I started watching the series from the being. I was really enjoying the series and anticipating season two. Well that time came and I put in the first disk, resulting in nothing. The disc was blank or it just would not play.

Damn Cheap Knockoffs from Thailand

In case you don’t already know, Asia (Thailand in this specific case) is known from production of really inexpensive copies of almost any product. So in this case my friend is out a couple bucks. Going price for any DVD is $2 (US).

But back to the story, I continued with remaining part of the season. With the recaps at the beginning of each episode, confirmed my feeling that I missed some very crucial information pertaining to the story line including one of the main characters dying. A 10 second segment recapping the entire story line is just not sufficient. In addition one of the recaps showed a very disappointing fact that one of the evil characters was killed off, a cute girl that was possessed by an all powerful demon. Now the demon’s replacement for this character is a red haired, buggy eyed, freaky guy.

Putting all this aside, there are two positives about watching a show called supernatural. First, any character return. So maybe the evil, but cute character will return. Second, watching a series called Supernatural has occasionally given me psychic the abilities. I see a trip to Best Buy in the near future.

SNICKERS

Since I do not think that this commercial is shown in the US, I think it is too funny and wanted to share.

Talk about a potential come back for this actor

St…St…Stuttering Idiot

Yesterday I was talking to a co-worker on the phone when all of sudden, for no apparent reason, I could not continue my sentence. The words just could not come out of mouth. So I started the sentence over, but coming to the same point and could not continue, again.

So what would any reasonable clear thinking person do? I don’t know, since I keep continuing to repeating the same thing and could stop until the 5th of 6th time. By then I imagine the person on the other end of phone was thinking “I think he is retarded or something”

After stopping, I took a few seconds and then completed my sentence. It must be mental exhaustion.

In the News

This weekend I was able to catch up on some wired stories in the news. Here are a few stories I found interesting!

Spray Paint

Only reason I find this interesting is due to the location.

Chubbuck Idaho was in the news, according to the story resident reported that they found the words "Go Home" spray-painted on the sides of his large white dog.

Boy I am so proud of my hometown making the news and I am curious what my old commards have been doing lately.

I imagine that adult beverages were involved. Of course I never did anything stupid like that and even if I did, it never made the news. It must be a slow week.

$65 Million Lawsuit Over Missing Pants

A judge in Washington DC is suing his former dry cleaners over a pair of missing pants. According to the story, a judge took several suits into a dry cleaner for alteration. When he came to pick up these items, one pair of pants were lost. He demanded that the owners buy him a new suit. After finding the pants a few days later, they refused.

I say if you are even slightly inconvenienced you need to sue. You may be asking the same question I asked, how does a pair of pants equal out to $65 million?

Well, the story states the suit filled, the judge no longer wanted to use his neighborhood dry cleaner. So $15,000 of the suit calls for the price to rent a car every weekend for 10 years to go to another business. Then the main bulk is his interpretation of D.C.'s consumer protection law, which fines violators $1,500 per violation, per day. 12 violations over 1,200 days, and then multiplied that by three defendants.

Well this has convinced me that this judge needs to be rewarded for being a total ass.

The story also mentioned that this has upset many people, and want this judge to be removed from his position and disbarred.

I concur

Coffee Angel

A while back I read about a coffee shop in Salt Lake City that had come up with a new T-shirt design, which depicted the angel Moroni with java flowing into his trumpet.

In case you don’t know, the statues on top of Mormon (LDS) temples are of the angel Moroni.

Of course some people objected to the image, and the Mormon Church had asked them to stop using the image.

A couple of days ago, there was another story in the news about the same coffee shop. They complied with the request. Now there is a new design for their T-shirt, which has a hand (with a dark suit sleeve and white shift cuff) poring coffee from a pot into a horn, and includes “the Lord giveth, and the church taketh away”.

In the first 2 weeks they already have over 150 orders from all across the country for the new design.

I say that there is nothing like a little controversy to sell more.

Trip Review (Again) - Final Installment

I think that I have been dragging this out long enough, but spending two weeks on vacation; there is a lot to write about. Of course I never have been accused of writing too little.

For the last segment of our trip, we spent seven lovely days in Amsterdam (Venice of the North) that is best known for their cannabis/coffee shops, red light district, and canals.

Just set the record set, we did not partake in the first two. Even though we did not go into a coffee shop, the effects were noticed all over the city. Constantly we would be walking around I could smell when a coffee shop was near. Let me say there are a lot of coffee shops in Amsterdam.

For the second of list, we decided to walk through this infamous area. There was not much to note, there were a few novelties shops with some graphic window displays. Later we found out that we just walked through the edge of the Red Light District and never really got into the heart of the area. Oh well, this was not an item on list of things to do before I die.

The one item from the list that we did partake was the canals. We bought a two day pass for the canal bus and used it quiet a bit. This form of travel is very inefficient. You could walk to and from your destination in the time it takes use the canal bus. But it was nice to slow down and enjoy the city.

Other notable sites that we enjoyed seeing were:

Anne Frank House – Was an interesting place to see, but depressing at the same time.

Rembrandt House – Largest collection of his etchings, which was my favorite museum in Amsterdam

Van Gogh Museum – There is a large amount of paintings with 200 paintings by Van Gogh’s, the largest collection of his work. The claim 200, but didn’t seem to be that many. Maybe the numerous self portraits just blend together. The most well know painting was Sunflower. This painting I never really liked, but it was better when seen up close. In addition, for some reason I thought The Starry Night was located here, but come to find out after our trip it is located permanently in New York.

Rijksmuseum – Currently under major renovation and only a very small portion of the collection was available to view, which was incredible.

Well that completes the summaries of our trip

City Nicknames

Just recently I was looking at Wikipedia Encyclopedia at cities nicknames when I came across cities that are compared to Paris. The list plentiful, but here are few I find interesting

Paris of the Caribbean - Havana, Cuba
Paris of North America - Montreal, Quebec
Paris of the Midwest - Detroit, Michigan
Paris of the Pacific - Sitka, Alaska, San Francisco
Paris of the South - Asheville, North Carolina;
Paris on the Potomac - Washington, DC

No matter where you are there is Paris near you
