I’m a tool for education purposes

As I was walking out of the movie theater this weekend, I happened to over hear a lady walking behind me. Apparently she saw my tattoo and pointed it out to her son. Saying something is the lines of “see that is the Dallas Cowboys star, you were named after them”

Since I just left the theater and I had more important matters like using the bathroom. I did not have a chance to ask what his name was. I would feel sorry for the kid if his first name was “Cowboys”.

How Much Fun is the Denver Airport

I just asked Shell what the subject for a blog posting should be. She responded with the above title, so there you go.

This all started with our return from our latest adventure to Colorado Springs for a Family Reunion. After arriving to the airport on Sunday, we checked in at the Untied counter for our boarding passes and trying to get through security after quite a wait (due to the weekend after the 4th). By the time we were able to accomplish these 2 tasks, we walking to our gate. When I noticed that our flight was “CANCELLED”.

So we proceeded to the customer service for rebooking. After waiting again, for some time, they were going to route us through Portland on another airline. Of course this did not work out, since they had troubles printing the tickets before the flight left. Of course we went through 1 manager, 3 employees, and 1 trainee. Ending up with no other flights available for this day, had to be the next day was the only option.

Well that brings me today as I sit in the airport with plenty of time to write this post. Again today we arrive at the airport with the plans to fly through Seattle to get home around 7 PM. Waiting for the plane we noticed that it was delayed by 20 minutes. No problem we would still have plenty of time for the next layover. As time past waiting for our flight, it was delayed and delayed. Eventually, we knew that would not be able to reach our connection in time.

So again, we proceeded back to customer service and ended up with our 4th flight plan in 2 days. This time a direct flight home at 9 PM, which is okay with me since we reduced our flying time by a couple of hours. But now we are waiting for a flight that has not even showed up on the departure screen.

So far we have walked through almost every shop in the terminal and still have 5 hours until our flight. I’m thinking on ridding the train around to waste some time before I go crazy.

Bringing me to my suggestions (aka the point of the story) for all my 3 readers, DO NOT FLY THROUGH DENVER. This is also the airport that caused a struggle to get home for Christmas last year. I had to be re-routed from Baltimore through Chicago, Seattle, and then drive from home.

Boise Trip

I was planning on making this post a week or so ago, but have not been the best at keeping up with this blog since I have been back. To make up for this lack of activity, here are a few posts today.

As previously mentioned, Shell and I headed to Boise for Dom’s wedding. We had a great time and enjoyed catching up with many friends. This was small and lovely wedding located at a vineyard in Kuna (near Boise), Idaho. To my surprise, which I did not think that it was possible, I believe the length was shorter than ours. In other words it was very nice. Not due the shortness of the ceremony.

The amusing highlights of the evening were the karaoke and dancing, even though I did not partake in either. As for the karaoke, there is nothing like a group of drunk people trying to sing. I’m not saying that I would have done a better job. In fact, I know I wouldn’t have. For the majority of the songs, the words were changed intentionally giving whole them a whole new meaning. And of course the fun field songs, even with no word substitutes, like ICE ICE BABY, and BABY GOT BACK.

As for the dancing, with the help of wine Tom was the star of the event. This started him participating in the Hokey Pokey (not sure if I spelled that right, but I really don’t care) and continued through the next song which was some modern Hip-Hop version of the Hokey Pokey. I actually have film of the later, but with the lack of my ability to hold the camera still and shortness of the clip, I decided not to place it on the internet.

Old Chicago

Once we arrived in Boise we met up with some friends at the Old Chicago. I did not have the pizza this trip, but it is fairly good from what I remember. But the best part about this restaurant is the 110 varieties of beer. Now I have not been at this place enough to complete the “World Tour”. So I don’t have to describe what this, here is the companies description from the websit.

Old Chicago World Beer Tour™
Travel the world, one beer at a time.

For more than 20 years beer lovers across America have sampled the world’s finest brews with our famous World Beer Tour.
g
The tour includes 110 exciting brews -- some old favorites, others happy discoveries. Each one bringing another taste thrill -- and big prize potential.
g
Once you’ve tried all 110 beers (not in one day), your tour’s complete. On that proud day you get your name forever emblazoned on The Famous Hall of Foam and instant bragging rights for dear mom.

What better way to make your way around the globe than with a beer in your hand?

If I was located near one of these restaurants, I take on the challenge. In case anybody was wondering, there were no Icelandic beers in the 110. Maybe who ever put together this menu, was impressed as much as I was Viking, Thule, or Egils.

The General Lee

During our recent trip to Boise, Shell and I had a great time. But there was one item that was very disappointing. Gregg disclosed his plan a few weeks before our trip and then failed to follow through. His plan was to show up at Dom’s wedding in his freshly painted car resembling "The General Lee" from the Dukes of Hazard.

Since I wanted to see the finished product of this plan and I am not very good at modifying pictures on the computer, I turned to the internet. With a little imagination here is the transformation

The original or at least a fairly good replica

Mazda, similar to Gregg’s car (beside the color) or at least what I remember

Today’s revision.

The closet picture I could find From the search I done on the internet, it would have been a first of a kind. “A GENERAL LEE MAZDA.” Of course maybe this maybe not one of the goals in this task.

Welcome back present

Upon arrival back home there was a lovely gift awaiting my return. Approximately 2 years ago (right before I left home for work) I also received this very same present. You may be asking what is this wonderful gift? A summons for JURY DUTY.

BOY WAS I EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it would only be right to make a post about this after my civic duty had ended. So this is the reason for the delay.

The first time this happened, I initially thought of trying to get out of this responsibility. But shortly after receiving the summons I decided to just serve the term, instead of giving some lame excuse (if it even worked) to try get out of it. Resulting is being called to the court house during the first week of the term.
The Monday I reported and was chosen for the jury selection process after many hours of waiting. Before going in for jury selection, they give everybody a number. This was the order we were brought into the court room and my lucky number was #2 out of 15. This was strike 1 for being selected for the trial.

During one point during the jury selection that the defendants lawyer asked the group the following question. “Someone is _____ until proven guilty?” Of course, nobody answered the question right away. So he continued to ask the question over and over with nobody answering. After getting annoyed, I answered the damn question, “innocent”. Immediately after answering, two things went through my mind.

First, by answering the question correctly, I was basically volunteering to be selected. Strike 2.

Second thought was a quote from the movie Runaway Jury, where Gene Hackman at one point of the movie basically stated “Do you really want to trust the verdict in a group of people that are too stupid to get out of Jury Duty?” Well there was strike 3, a perfect example of being too stupid to get out Jury Duty and being selected for a trial. As for the trial, it lasted into the next day and nothing too interesting to report.

Well for the latest time being called, after arriving home, again I thought making a excuses to get out of the service again. But again just decided to get it over with instead of delaying it to another month. Which I know they would not leave me alone until I moved away. Anyway, four weeks have passed and I was not called to duty this term. Unfortunately, this will probably move me to another summons in a couple of months (even though it is suppose to be random).

Return to the desert

Well I am finally back in the states or should say I have been back for a couple of weeks. Since I have been away from home for such a long time, there were many things around the house that needed my attention. In fact there still are many items, but nothing too interesting for a post. The reason for lack of activity here.

Well this weekend I will hit the road again, but just for a weekend and purposes of this trip has nothing to do with work. The reason for the trip you may ask, well Dom is getting married. The event should be a good time filled with catching up with old friends and the possibility of many memorable stories to pass on. We'll just have to wait and see.

Supernatural

Since I have been temporary living in places that do not have any decent TV shows, I have to relay heavily on my and my co-workers DVD collections to see some decent shows or at least something new. This have included several seasons of The Simpson (best show on earth), Weeds (interesting, but if I was at home I would probably be watching anything else), Seinfeld, and Titus (not too well know, but I find it funny as hell) to name a few.

A few weeks back a friend came back from vacation in Thailand with first two seasons of Supernatural (key word is Thailand). When this show first premiered, I was able to watch most of the first season with a little help of TiVo. Because it has been awhile since I have seen this show, I started watching the series from the being. I was really enjoying the series and anticipating season two. Well that time came and I put in the first disk, resulting in nothing. The disc was blank or it just would not play.

Damn Cheap Knockoffs from Thailand

In case you don’t already know, Asia (Thailand in this specific case) is known from production of really inexpensive copies of almost any product. So in this case my friend is out a couple bucks. Going price for any DVD is $2 (US).

But back to the story, I continued with remaining part of the season. With the recaps at the beginning of each episode, confirmed my feeling that I missed some very crucial information pertaining to the story line including one of the main characters dying. A 10 second segment recapping the entire story line is just not sufficient. In addition one of the recaps showed a very disappointing fact that one of the evil characters was killed off, a cute girl that was possessed by an all powerful demon. Now the demon’s replacement for this character is a red haired, buggy eyed, freaky guy.

Putting all this aside, there are two positives about watching a show called supernatural. First, any character return. So maybe the evil, but cute character will return. Second, watching a series called Supernatural has occasionally given me psychic the abilities. I see a trip to Best Buy in the near future.

SNICKERS

Since I do not think that this commercial is shown in the US, I think it is too funny and wanted to share.

Talk about a potential come back for this actor
